Model Overview

The ID.4 CROZZ is FAW-Volkswagen's first all-electric compact SUV built on the Volkswagen Group's MEB dedicated EV platform, serving as a core pillar in the brand's electrification strategy in China. First launched locally in 2021, it is the sister model to SAIC Volkswagen's ID.4 X. The 2026 ID.4 CROZZ was officially launched on 26 August 2025, offering a line-up of three variants with official recommended retail prices ranging between RM149,900 and RM207,600. The entry-level Pure Enjoyment variant is priced at RM149,900, the mid-spec PURE+ variant at RM185,900, and the range-topping Dark Knight PRO variant at RM207,600. As a German joint-venture all-electric SUV, its main rivals in the segment include same-class EV contenders such as the BYD Song PLUS EV and XPeng G6.
Design Language
The 2026 ID.4 CROZZ carries forward the Volkswagen ID. family's signature "Light Language Rhythm" design philosophy. Up front, it features an EV-dedicated closed-off grille paired with a full-width LED light bar connecting the IQ.Light matrix LED headlamps on either side. The illuminated brand emblem lights up in tandem with the headlamps, delivering high visual recognition. The front bumper integrates a full-width dot-matrix air intake alongside geometric air ducts, achieving the dual purpose of lowering aerodynamic drag and accentuating a sporty stance. In profile, the SUV exhibits classic dedicated EV platform proportions with short front and rear overhangs and a long wheelbase, complemented by semi-concealed door handles and black wheel arch cladding. The rear is highlighted by smoked full-width dynamic LED taillights, accented by silver trim on the lower bumper. Body dimensions measure 4,592 mm in length, 1,852 mm in width, and 1,629 mm in height, with a 2,765 mm wheelbase. Six exterior paint options are available: Polar White, Pearlescent White, Galaxy Grey, Starlight Blue, Morning Mist Green, and Alien Blue.
Inside, the ID.4 CROZZ adopts the Volkswagen ID. family's signature cabin architecture. The dashboard is fitted with a 5.3-inch floating digital instrument cluster and a 12.9-inch floating centre touchscreen. Gear selection is operated via a column-mounted electronic shifter. Soft-touch materials are used extensively across the interior, highlighted by chrome accents and piano black trim. Five touch-sensitive control zones are positioned below the infotainment screen for intuitive operation.
Powertrain and Performance
The entire 2026 ID.4 CROZZ range is powered by a rear-mounted permanent magnet synchronous single electric motor in a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) layout. It is offered in two power outputs: the Pure Enjoyment variant delivers 125 kW (170 PS) and 310 Nm of torque, while the PURE+ and Dark Knight PRO variants output 170 kW (231 PS) and 310 Nm of torque. Top speed across all variants is rated at 160 km/h. Battery packs are available in 54.3 kWh and 80.4 kWh ternary lithium configurations, offering CLTC pure electric driving ranges of 448 km (Pure Enjoyment) and 601 km (PURE+ and Dark Knight PRO) respectively. On the fast-charging front, a 30% to 80% state of charge (SoC) takes approximately 30 minutes. The sprint from 0 to 50 km/h is completed in 3.1 seconds.
Chassis and Handling
Underpinned by Volkswagen's MEB dedicated EV platform, the ID.4 CROZZ features a front MacPherson strut and rear five-link independent suspension setup. Tuned by a top German engineering team for dynamic agility, the chassis achieves an optimum 50:50 front-to-rear weight distribution. Four selectable driving modes are provided: Eco, Comfort, Sport, and Individual. The electric power steering system adjusts steering weight and feedback in accordance with the active driving mode. Higher-spec variants are equipped with adaptive suspension damping control, delivering well-controlled body roll and composed tracking stability.
Cabin and Equipment
In terms of the smart cockpit, the 2026 ID.4 CROZZ is equipped with the MOS 4.0/IDS.5 in-car operating system, supporting wireless Apple CarPlay, HUAWEI HiCar smartphone mirroring, OTA remote updates, and voice control. Dual-zone automatic climate control, the Clean Air 3.0 cabin filtration system, a panoramic glass roof, a 7-speaker sound system, and power-folding/heated side mirrors are fitted as standard across the range. Stepping up to the PURE+ variant adds the ID.light intelligent interactive light strip, adaptive front-lighting system (AFS), a heated steering wheel, and a powered tailgate. The range-topping Dark Knight PRO variant further adds the Dark Knight exterior styling pack, a 360-degree surround-view camera, lane change assist, Door Opening Warning (DOW), 20-inch alloy wheels, and 12-way power-adjustable front seats with heating, ventilation, and massage functions. Luggage capacity stands at 512 litres in standard configuration, expandable to nearly 1,600 litres with the rear seats folded flat.
Safety and Intelligent Driving
On the safety front, the ID.4 CROZZ battery system has undergone and passed 197 stringent safety tests. Tyre pressure monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, and a reverse camera are standard equipment across the board.
For driver assistance, the 2026 ID.4 CROZZ comes standard with the IQ.Drive Level 2 ADAS suite, comprising Full-Speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Keep Assist, and Traffic Sign Recognition. Higher-spec variants are equipped with the Travel Assist 3.0 semi-autonomous driving system, operating across a full 0–160 km/h speed range. From the 2025 model year onwards, the suite adds interactive lane change assist, RPA remote parking assist, and TPA memory parking assist. Selected variants also feature an Augmented Reality Head-Up Display (AR HUD). Passive safety features include front airbags, front side airbags, and full-length side curtain airbags.
Market Performance and Evaluation
The ID.4 CROZZ has navigated notable sales fluctuations in China's EV market, recording total cumulative deliveries of 22,353 units throughout 2025. Monthly sales dropped to 1,520 units in July 2025 before rebounding to 2,431 units in November, then tapering off to 868 units in December. Cumulative deliveries from January to November 2025 totalled 21,485 units, representing a 39.4% year-on-year decline.
According to media reviews and owner feedback, the key selling points of the ID.4 CROZZ centre on its precise handling engineered through German chassis tuning, the 50:50 weight balance and RWD dynamics enabled by the dedicated MEB platform, and Volkswagen's proven build quality and reliability. The 2026 model enhanced its market competitiveness via a "lower price, higher spec" strategy—dropping the entry price to RM149,900 while extending the maximum CLTC range to 601 km. Areas for improvement include an infotainment ecosystem that trails behind domestic Chinese EV brands, owner feedback regarding real-world range discrepancies versus claimed figures, and isolated reports of drive-system error messages such as "electric drive not functioning correctly". Nonetheless, as a cornerstone of Volkswagen's electrification roadmap in China, the ID.4 CROZZ leverages its combination of German build quality and RWD driving dynamics to maintain a distinctive positioning in the fiercely competitive RM150,000 to RM200,000 EV bracket.
